Inhalt

This advanced seminar will focus on close reading of several key passages from the Kritik der Urteilskraft corresponding with key passages from Hegel’s Wissenschaft der Logik. In particular, we will attend to the "Allgemeiner Begriff der Logik," "Allgemeine Eintheilung der Logik," and the beginning of "Die Lehre von Sein." We will also draw on a few passage from Hegel’s lectures on Ästhetik and Recht as they concern the fundamental method of the Logik. These passages are seminal moments of the emergence of Hegel’s logical method in conversation with Kant’s critical philosophy. Thus, we will try to work out the details of this connection and what Hegel had in mind when claiming that Kant introduced the logical method, but spared himself the effort of reworking his three Critiques to accord with it. Students will be expected to give a presentation on specific portions of these passages.
